Art & Nature Series: Nigel Cooke

Nigel Cooke
Artist’s Garden 2 (2018)

“I’ve reached a point where I feel I want something to be democratic in terms of interpretation. The work is like a screen that is available for projection.”

Nigel Cooke achieves this elusive in between of figuration and abstraction, which leads to works that are open to viewer’s interpretation of what is occurring in his scenes. He creates this deeply immersive space which holds many layers of thought and narrative, allowing for the true quality of the paint and medium to shine through as one of the defining characters of the work.

This mingling of the fresh, vibrant areas of colour and precise brushwork creates a perfect balance to capture the attention of the audience.
